no denying it ... the wait for this concert is huge. Sonic Youth missing for some 'time in Italy and outside Alcatraz proves it in full: very bulky tail a couple of hours before the concert, ticket touts, stalls crammed with magiette ... In short, the air is one of the best opportunities.
The opening group (called Golden Age Jooklo, I went looking for the name on the internet just to warn you) are a disaster as music not heard for some time. One piece 33 minutes with tiny variations, different type shit clarinet, synths, congas, cymbals from kitchen to throw up. Our ears beg for mercy and our brain is astonished by the many pseudo crap ringed by greenhorn presumptuous and arrogant. Others go fuck off ... I finally overwhelmed by boos and a lot of people (including myself) are very eloquent gestures: "Get the fuck out, you have stolen 33 minutes of our lives."
More or less the gist was this.
Thurston Moore takes the stage with a strange grin. It seems to me drunk. No, not ... energy is immediately palpable. The explosion comes early as the third piece for a second when I think of the worst: the Alcatraz held the force of impact? "'Cross The Breeze" is a bomb, really impressive, the sound is perfect and there are no musicians on stage but carrion. Fans below unleash the mayhem on stage, apart from the pogo that routs all the threads (goodbye ... see you guys in the car ...).
Following Ranaldo see astride his guitar lying on the ground with two strikes while the iron bars on several occasions, while Moore practically disgraced a guitar by putting a piece of iron inside the ropes dragged by a 'the other end of the handle (capitasti goodbye, I would say ...). Also great "Schizophrenia" with that going Scazzi pop-top that turns into pure indie-noise by spontaneous applause.
Eventually the disc will be sacked as "Daydream Nation" 5 pieces, but I also remember a great piece at last "Rather Ripped" ("Jams Run Free") that the next day brought me to listen to reapeat on my home stereo for 5-6 times. Beautiful, beautiful ... are in great shape ...
Huge two guitars (special mention for Thurston), crazy battery (with dick in Bologna a few years ago he sounded so ...) I think only subdued Kim Gordon, very secluded for the presence second stage of a low (it is rumored the former Pavement bassist) much more on the ball. There were no hits ... is true (like Kool Thing, Death Valley 69, Youth Against Fascism ...) but in the end is not very important.
What matters is that after nearly 30 years of music the SY are still able to prove so alive and bastards. All the lessons from them, without exception.
